Does Drinking Water Burn Calories?

Recently, I had lunch with a friend and what she said left me baffled. You should know that I have a habit of drinking water during meals. So when she saw me ask for a glass from the waiter, she warned me that it is an unhealthy practice which doesnt burn calories. According to her, drinking water during meals makes you full and you wont be able to eat more food. Her statement made me curious on whether drinking water has any impact on weight loss.

According to WebMD, water consumption will definitely help you lose extra weight. However, it does not burn calories or fat as it is believed. Drinking water before meals makes you full because it reduces intake of 75 calories which sums up to 27000 calories per year. Sometimes we cant tell the difference between being thirsty and being hungry. If you want to lose weight, you must know how to differentiate between the two to avoid overeating.

Interestingly, water increases the rate of metabolism in the body which in turn burns calories. It does not matter if youve eaten food or not because every time you eat, your body burns calories to process whatever iis coming in.

Water is the fuel that keeps you going during your workouts at the gym. It enables you to work out longer and harder. Remember, you must put in the work to get the results you want. If you have a busy lifestyle, try to go to the gym for at least twice a week.

In a nutshell, water does not burn calories or fat directly. However, it is very useful in your weight loss journey. In one of my recent blogs, I talked about the things you will have to do to maintain permanent weight loss. One of them is water and it would be best if you try it and see for yourself.
