4 Money-Saving Weight-Loss Tips

“Going on a diet” or “losing weight” is often associated with spending more money than you are used to. We think that to lose weight we need to buy that gym membership, that diet book, sign up for that fitness program, or purchase those diet pills.

When you think about it, it is a bit ironic, if we associate dieting with eating less, not more. So why are we spending so much money?

Here are some tips weight loss tips that will help you stay on track with your weight-loss regimen while saving money.

1. Plan Your Meals

If you have a calorie or macronutrient goal, plan your meals weekly. If you aren’t sure where to start, make sure to talk to a dietician beforehand to make sure you are meeting all of your energy and nutritional requirements.

Planning your meals will help fight against splurging when hunger hits.

2. Make a Strict Grocery List

If you are planning your meals, it should be easy to make your weekly grocery list. Don’t add any extras – since you are making your meals you know exactly what is going into each one. Be strict about sticking to what is on the list so you don’t wander down the dessert aisle and fill your basket with things you know don’t fit into your plan.

3. Consider Dropping the Gym, and Calling a Friend Instead

For some people, paying a fancy gym membership doesn’t necessarily mean they will be motivated to go to the gym to work out. Rather than forking over your money to the gym, why not call up a friend, instead?

Research shows that being accountable to someone is an effective way to stay motivated and stay committed. Find a friend who isn’t afraid to be honest with you (“you been slacking on your bicep exercises this week!”), but who will also give you a complement just when you need it (“Wow! I can really see the improvements in your tone this week!”).

4. Go All-Natural

Skip the packaged foods and go for fresh foods instead. While it may take more time to prepare, you will be sure to avoid hidden ingredients, like trans fats and too much sugar, that may be the reason it is so difficult for you to meet your weight loss goals.

With just a few tips, you may be able to save hundreds of dollars per month, while also getting closer to reaching your weight loss goals.
